Ayanda, a “21-year old Afro-hipster”, fights to preserve her father’s auto repair shop from being sold eight years after his death. Thrown into a world of greasy overalls, gender stereotypes and abandoned vintage cars, she handles the business of reviving the shop. Ayanda must come to terms with her father’s legacy and her own personal growth.

The story is set against the background of spectacular post-apocalyptic Ethiopian landscapes, where our diminutive superhero Gagano - on the one hand gripped by daydreams and on the other by constant fears - has had enough of collecting the valuable crumbs of decayed civilisation, the valuable high points of which are merchandise from Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan. When a spaceship that has been hovering high in the sky for years starts showing signs of activity, Gagano has to overcome his fears - but also a witch, Santa Claus and second-generation Nazis - to find out that things aren’t quite the way he thought.

L’histoire se déroule dans un contexte spectaculaire post-apocalyptique éthiopien, où le petit superhéros Gagano, entraîné tant par ses rêves diurnes que par ses peurs constantes, collecte les précieuses miettes d’une civilisation décomposée, les précieuses images qui sont vendues représentant Michael Jackson et Michael Jordan. Quand une navette spatiale, qui planait dans le ciel depuis des années, commence à montrer des signes d’activité, Gagano doit surmonter ses peurs, mais également un sorcier, Santa Claus et la seconde génération de Nazis, pour finalement s’apercevoir que les choses ne sont finalement pas comme il les avait imaginés.

Dieser erfolgreiche Animationsfilm basiert auf dem mehrfach ausgezeichneten Comic von Marguerite Abouet und zeigt das Alltagsleben in einem Vorort von Abidjan an der Elfenbeinküste in den 1970er Jahren. Anstatt auszugehen und zu feiern, bleibt die 19-jährige Aya lieber zuhause und lernt, denn sie möchte Ärztin werden. Ihre freie Zeit verbringt sie in der Schule, mit ihrer Familie oder mit ihren zwei besten Freundinnen Adjoua und Bintou. Alles läuft normal, doch dann wird Adjoua schwanger und die drei Freundinnen müssen sich etwas einfallen lassen.

It recounts the life of Aya, a 19-year-old Ivorian who lives in Yopougon, a working-class neighbourhood of Abidjan in the 1970s. A serious young woman who has ambitions to become a doctor, she is in total contrast to her two friends, Adjoua and Bintou who to her dismay, do extremely well in the categories : Hairstyles, Fashion and Husband hunting. The two girls, go dancing in the "bush", venture out to the dance halls, taking life easily, until the day that Adjoua, who is not married, finds out that she is pregnant. In a serene atmosphere with warm colours seasoned with popular songs, the film attempts to describe the lives of an urban and modern neighbourhood where no matter the circumstances, everyone stays optimistic by relying on the solidarity among neighbours.

Between Turin, Dakar, and New York, Sophie, Abdoulaye and Thierno’s three destinies cross paths and echo one another, delineating a constellation of exile. Sophie, 24 years old, leaves Dakar to join her husband, Abdoulaye, in Turin. Meanwhile, Abdoulaye has already left for New York through a smuggler’s network. 19-year-old Thierno is traveling in Africa for the first time. With these three characters’ destinies, Under the Starry Sky takes us on a journey through the diversity of the cities the characters travel to, confronting us with the realities, hopes, and dreams of contemporary emigration.

Dans trois villes, Dakar, Turin et New-York, nous partageons les chemins d'exils de différents personnages. À l'occasion de l'enterrement de son mari, Mame Amy la new-yorkaise, revient à Dakar accompagnée de son fils Thierno, 19 ans, dont c'est le premier voyage en Afrique. Sophie, 24 ans, quitte Dakar pour rejoindre son mari Abdoulaye à Turin. Il est introuvable. Abdoulaye arrive à New-York avec son cousin par l'intermédiaire d'un réseau de passeurs. À mesure que les jours passent, des résonances se créent entre les parcours de ces personnages, dans la diversité des villes qu'ils traversent, pourtant toutes unies sous un même ciel étoilé.
Outed - The painful reality
